INSULIN COMA

DEFINITION:-

It is a condition in which blood sugar level decreases upto 50mg/dl or less than 50mg/dl.
It is also called hypoglycaemic coma.

CAUSES:-

• Alcohol intake with food
• Delayed intake of meal
• Excessive exercise
• High dose of insulin hormones
• Do not take food after taking insulin doses.

CLINICAL MANIFESTATION:-

• Blood glucose level is less than 50 mg/dl
• Cold and clammy skin
• Numbness in mouth, tongue, dose.
• Increase heart beat
• Emotional changes
• Slurred speech (difficulty in speaking)
• Dizziness
• Seizures
• Dilated pupil
• Coma
• Loss of consciousness

DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION:-

• Blood test.
• Ketone PH.
• BUN (Blood Urea Nitrogen).
• ABG.
• Urinalysis

Treatment:-

• Administer Glucagon by I.V route.
• Dextrose 25% I.V
